Class Description: Explore the wonders of Biology! Investigate the science of life including: cells, plants, microscopic organisms, and simple creatures. Examine actual samples and run experiments using household materials. Sample activities include: Building 3-dimensional cell models and finding the environmental preferences of live earthworms. Reading Assignments at home. Optional written assignments for home use; teacher will not be collecting homework. The written assignments are multiple choice quizzes to be taken open or closed book. These can be purchased and downloaded from the textbook company. Students are expected to be respectful of others and produce their best effort, while treating science materials carefully and safely. Students should have a 3-ring binder, lined paper, pencils, and colored pencils for class. Parents are to purchase the following text. Look for the 2nd edition, as class will follow that text. If unable to find the 2nd edition, the 3rd edition can be used though it is a more difficult text.
Mary Anne is a certificated teacher who has taught in public and private schools for 20 years. Most recently, Mary Anne was a Learning Specialist working with struggling readers, but has enjoyed teaching children of all ages and abilities. Prior to her education career, Mary Anne worked as a Registered Nurse at City of Hope and has never lost her love of the sciences. Mary Anne has been married to Jeff for 25 years.
