Coach Will is a multi-disciplinary teaching/artist whose professional efforts and accomplishments include over 25 years as a working visual artist, professional musician and respected arts educator. Last year his program “Inter-Curricular Arts” received the “Continuing Service Award” from the California State PTA and “Best New Program Award” from the LA County Parks and Rec Department.
Will has been on the artist’s path from an early age, and was always drawn to the visual and musical arts. Thanks to a wide array of talented mentors and teachers, he was encouraged to follow his interests in the arts. His passion continued in college, where he began studying traditional Afro-Cuban drumming while working toward a fine art degree. Will continued his professional career in music while maintaining a visual arts studio. During this time, he had the opportunity to accompany internationally acclaimed artists including Tito Puente, Jose Feliciano, Linda Ronstadt, and the band WAR.
As a break from the rigors of life as a musician/visual artist, Will began working with youth as a teaching artist. His teaching portfolio includes work as Lead Teacher in the innovative “Rock the Classroom” literacy/music program as well as visual art classes taught at The Otis College of Art and Design and the LAUSD sponsored Arts 4 City Youth. He is currently engaged in growing his own arts enrichment program “Inter-Curricular Arts”. The program has come to serve over 3,000 elementary students in the San Gabriel and Burbank school districts.
