BIO
I’ve been an educator for many years and have taught in a variety of learning environments - from community college to homeschool co-ops and learning centers. My experience as a homeschool parent and as an educator in the homeschool community have helped deepen my appreciation that each learner is unique - with their own passions and interests, their own level of attention and patience, and their own natural curiosities about the world around them. I work to meet learners where they are and to foster their curiosities and educational growth. I prefer to work with small groups and strive to create a collaborative classroom environment. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Biology from Truman State University and a Ph.D. in Molecular and Cellular Biology from Baylor College of Medicine. While I primarily teach life science related classes, I do enjoy branching out to offer fun and innovative classes for K-6th grade in other subjects. I am parent of three kids and a human companion for two cats and (currently) three chickens, and perhaps also the many birds, lizards, butterflies, and spiders in my yard and garden. I enjoy hiking, camping, and traveling to new places.
