Kristin has a combined ten years of experience teaching grades ranging from Kindergarten — High School. She has 7 plus years of experience as a High School Instructor at El Monte Christian Academy. She worked closely with each high school student as they transitioned from high school to peruse their academic and career dreams on the college/university level. She is passionate about helping students excel to the fullest potential through exploring academic and career interest, leveraging their strengths, and encouraging them to lead with confidence. The Leadership Class will aim to inspire 7-12th graders to lead independently and as a team. The class is aimed to enlighten the students about local and global community needs through research, exploration, and discussion. The goal of the class is to offer training and tools for each student to feel confident in their abilities to make a positive difference in their world individually and as a team. Kristin will attempt to coordinate some of the training with two days at UCLA, dates, and details will come when provided by Jefferson Awards Foundation. These training dates and competition day for speech will require parent participation and carpooling to UCLA. Special community service leaders will be invited to speak about the impact they have made and inspire students to consider needs and ways to help positively impact them. As a team, they will be encouraged to research, organize, and lead a community service project that will focus on a specific need. They will design their team structure, assign roles, and responsibilities. Then, they will need to manage the project by keeping each other team-mate accountable through conducting weekly meetings, overcoming differences of opinions. During the Spring semester, the team will be asked to write a detailed report about the process and project. Finally, they will need to prepare and present a 7-minute speech regarding their project in front of a panel of 5 judges and other local Los Angeles District/Private High Schools at UCLA! Note: Training / Competition Dates - will be released during Fall and Spring Semesters.
