LESSON FEES: $45 for a 30-minute lesson $60 for a 45-minute lesson $75 for a 60-minute lesson SUBJECTS: Piano, Sewing, Cooking, Biblical Studies, Gardening, Sarah Ambrosio has had a liberal education. She received double bachelor’s degrees in philosophy and theology from Franciscan University of Steubenville in Ohio. Before that she attended the University of San Diego pursuing World Religions and took a mid-year break to attend Grossmont College for Jazz Piano, Voice and Ballroom Dance classes. Each of these educational decisions were informed by the desire for independent, accelerated study instilled at her all-girls high school. Sarah can’t pinpoint when her love of music began, only that she spent every holiday at her grandparent’s piano, plunking out simple melodies with “number books” from the 1960s. Those same grandparents became her benefactors through elementary school, gifting a piano and lessons. Eventually the love for music and arts translated to musical theater, and Sarah spent junior high, high school, and college advancing what would become an acting career in Hollywood. Still, the love for piano remained and when funds would allow, she cobbled together a piano curriculum. This has allowed her extensive experience in various methods. To date, Sarah has been teaching piano and music theory for 10 years, with students aged three to sixty-five. Her teaching philosophy is heavily informed by the Charlotte Mason and Montessori styles of teaching in which students are guided to explore the instrument and discover their own abilities while forming virtuous habits. Though Sarah has her favorite books for teaching (the Piano Pronto series), she can work with each family’s pre-existing materials and former teaching styles. For years, Sarah has heard adults bemoan the fact that they quit lessons and now with they could play piano but don’t have the time to relearn. For Sarah, the goal is to not even get to the “quitting” option because her students feel confident to keep learning, despite the inevitable frustrations. She wants her students to be satisfied in their consistent progress. Creating music is a gift for some, a talent for others, and available to all.
All cancellations or schedule changes must be made directly with the instructor by 6 p.m. the night before a lesson to avoid a full lesson penalty fee. Some instructors may provide you with written notification outlining a different cancellation/penalty policy. This policy will supersede Home School Coaches’ policy. We truly want these lessons to support your educational goals, so feel free to share your expectations with your coach; this will enable them to provide you with a uniquely customized learning experience.
