About this Instructor
LESSON FEES: $50 for a 30-minute lesson $70 for a 45-minute lesson $90 for a 60-minute lesson SUBJECTS: Viola, Violin My teaching experience began when I was 15 years of age. I gave lessons in my home starting with a seven year old boy who eventually grew up and became a member of a professional symphony orchestra! I've been teaching in-home private violin lessons for over 50 years now! I also taught at local schools including McGroarty Arts Center in Tujunga for 10 years, and Neighborhood Music School, Inc. in Arcadia for 12 years. I enjoyed being the soloist with the South Bend Symphony Orchestra, and the Indiana University Orchestra and being a member of the Pasadena Community Orchestra. I grew up in a family where learning a musical instrument, singing, and dance were encouraged. When I decided to get a bachelor's degree in music, my parents helped me to reach my goal. As a result of their encouragement, I earned the Bachelor's Degree in Violin Performance from USC's School of Performing Arts. After graduating from college, my first teaching position was Lecturer in Violin at The USC Community School of Performing Arts. I taught there for three years. What I love most about teaching violin is using intuition in approaching a student. The resultant happy energy created in the student and teacher is very fulfilling to me! I connect best with students who are very interested in learning with me. With that being said, agewise I connect with anyone from five years and up. As for the student who may be resistant to music lessons, I have ideas for getting connected with them, too! Those ideas include playing by ear, encouraging them to choose their favorite piece of music, and improvisation. Simply seeing them as a unique individual goes a long way towards success. Besides playing and teaching violin and viola, my favorite subject is science. My hobbies include piano, drawing, meditation, reading, walking, gardening, watching YouTube videos about cute animals and current events, tinkering with learning languages, and expressing my sense of humor with friends and family through writing and conversation.
