SUBJECTS: General Writing, Essay Writing, Creative Writing, Literature, Drama/Acting CLASSES: Classic Literature Please be sure to contact us to learn more about this coach's class pod. Before becoming a parent, I received my B.A. and California Teaching Credential in English and taught in a private high school. While there, I taught all four grade levels, ranging from basic English classes to specialized literature courses. My favorite part of teaching in the classroom was the opportunity to engage in discussion with the students, analyzing and looking deeper into the issues and philosophies presented in the literature. After several years of teaching at the high school, my husband and I started a family. I was not expecting to homeschool, but we were captivated by the lifestyle, efficiency, and personalization that it offered. We decided to “try” homeschooling when our oldest was approaching school age, and we have homeschooled ever since! My family has enjoyed learning alongside each other for over 15 years. The book, For the Children’s Sake by Susan Schaeffer Macaulay, introduced me to Charlotte Mason’s philosophies and I incorporated many of her methods into our homeschooling. I have loved being able to spend time with my children, watching their eyes light up when they understood a concept. I have also appreciated the freedom to slow down if they needed more time. My oldest child is now in college studying to be an engineer, and I have two remaining high school students. Now that my children are older, I am excited to use my experiences to help other students develop their skills. I can’t wait to see your kids’ eyes light up too!
