Living Foods - SOUTHEAST PASADENA: May (Fri) Grades 2-7th

Living Foods - SOUTHEAST PASADENA: May (Fri) Grades 2-7th

Summary: Living Foods: Nourishing a Healthy Gut Microbiome. “Let food be thy medicine, and let medicine be thy food.” attributed to Hippocrates. Come learn about how to prepare and grow foods that heal and nourish our gut microbiome: fermented foods, foods rich in nutrients, probiotics and foods retaining the live enzymes that help us digest them. In this hands-on class, we’ll learn about the importance of nurturing a healthy gut microbiome, what foods feed a healthy gut, and which foods are damaging to the gut. Each week, we’ll prepare a different gut friendly food: sourdough bread, sauerkraut, microgreens, yogurt, and smoothies packed with gut-friendly ingredients. We’ll also spend time learning about the power of good nutrition, especially plant nutrition, to prevent illness and cultivate lifelong health habits. Through it all, our goal will be to understand the wonders and benefits of living foods, to grow in health and in the slow art of making healing foods.
