ABOUT THIS TUTOR
I was homeschooled in high school before earning a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from UCLA. After teaching English in Japan, I completed a Master’s degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and a Master’s degree in Philosophy. I have taught Academic Writing at Cal Poly Pomona’s English Language Institute and now teach Philosophy at Pasadena City College, including a writing-intensive Critical Thinking course.
My teaching approach frames writing as a conversation, where students engage with ideas, practice skills in meaningful contexts, and follow models to develop their own voice in the conversation. My wife and I homeschool our two children, who often remind me that my best lesson plans still need adjusting. Select tutors offer these packages to help students catch up in core subject areas. To qualify, parents must provide the tutor with evidence of their child's academic gap (such as recent test scores or assessment results).
