ABOUT THIS TUTOR
I was homeschooled in high school before earning a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from UCLA. After teaching English in Japan, I completed a Master’s degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and a Master’s degree in Philosophy. I have taught Academic Writing at Cal Poly Pomona’s English Language Institute and now teach Philosophy at Pasadena City College, including a writing-intensive Critical Thinking course.
My teaching approach frames writing as a conversation, where students engage with ideas, practice skills in meaningful contexts, and follow models to develop their own voice in the conversation. My wife and I homeschool our two children, who often remind me that my best lesson plans still need adjusting. Beyond academics, I enjoy watching Dodger baseball, following the Lakers, and playing guitar. —Zeph Scotti, Scotti Educational Services
